“Safo” and El Brujo triumphed in this edition and the City Hall is already working for next year’s edition.
The Alicante International Classical Theatre Festival (FITCA), held from 13 to 25 September, has closed its sixth edition with nearly 5,000 attendees to the six theatrical proposals that have been developed in the Teatro Principal. The Alicante City Council’s Department of Culture and the Festival’s management emphasise that this season is positioning itself year after year as a benchmark classical theatre festival on a national level.
The Teatro Principal has hosted six theatrical productions with four co-productions of the Festival de Mérida, the highlights of which were Safo and El Brujo, which ended the performances to applause and a standing ovation from the audience. Miles Gloriosus, with a cast headed by Carlos Sobera, entertained the large audience that filled the Principal and ended on their feet singing along with the artists.
In addition to the performances that have taken place in the Alicante coliseum, the complementary activities developed in the Pozos de Garrigós of the Museo de Aguas, and the two puppet shows of El viaje de Isabela, in the Espacio Séneca, have played an important role among the family audience, which in all cases have filled the capacity of the theatre.
The Councillor for Culture, Antonio Manresa, said that “this great cultural event is getting better year after year and has already established itself in the city of Alicante as a focus of classical theatre, with first class plays, which take place both in the Principal and in other municipal venues. He also announced that “we are already working on the preparation of next year’s FITCA, which will keep the same dates, to surpass or equal the good reception achieved this year”.
The artistic director of the festival, Mª Dolores Padilla, gave a very positive assessment of this sixth edition and said that “we are very satisfied with the artistic quality and the success of this year’s edition”. She also announced that “we are already working on the seventh edition with more novelties, with great productions and working to ensure that FITCA continues to grow and position itself in Spain as a festival of reference in the performing arts”.
Every year FITCA opens up to all audiences and expands to new municipal venues, to host major productions and top-level stage proposals on the national scene. In addition, the Councillor for Culture thanked all the citizens for their participation, as “it is essential for this to work and to be able to develop a seventh edition”. And he assured that “the FITCA would not be possible without the collaboration between the different institutions that participate along with the Alicante City Council”.
