The life of Carmen Díez de Rivera was so exceptional that it has parallels with Greek tragedies such as Antigone or Ariadne. Born in bizarre family circumstances, within the finest of the Spanish aristocracy, she renounced class privileges and reached a position that no woman has held in this country: Chief of the Cabinet of the Presidency of the Government.
