The Ruse National Orchestra (Bulgaria) was established in 1919. In 1947 the orchestra was nationalized and on January 4, 1948 it gave its first concert as the Ruse State Philharmonic under the direction of Konstantin Iliev. Over the past 50 years, the orchestra has worked with such important conductors as: Kurt Mazur, Carlo Tseki, Dmitry Kitaenko, Kurt Zanderling, Evgeni Svetlanov, Valery Gergiev among others….
One of the most memorable events in the history of the orchestra was its collaboration with Dmitri Shostakovich and the composer’s premiere of his second piano concerto in 1958. It has been awarded Gold Records by BNR, BNT and Radio Berlin. In 2003 it received the highest award in Bulgaria “The Crystal Lyre” for the premiere of Carl Jenkins’ work “The Man with a Gun”.
In 2015 it received the award for Best Ensemble of the Year.
