La Regenta

La Regenta is a story about the confrontation between the overflowing passion of deserts and the love of the chains of provincial social morality and betrayal. Set in the city of Vetusta, it is a naturalistic work that portrays the harsh environment of a provincial city dominated by an idle upper class and a clergyman who imposes a hypocritical and suffocating morality. Ana Ozores, married to Don Víctor Quintana, former regent of the Audiència de Vetusta, older than her, was trapped in her marriage, due to severe frustration, and trapped by Don Álvaro, the don Juan of the city, and for her own confessor, Don Fermín de Pas, who longs to make her his second wife. One of the most important works of our country’s literature, for the first time adapted for theater in a version faithful to the Clarín text.
